Which peppercorns or salt?
For optimal use of the Peugeot pepper mill, we recommend using peppercorns with a diameter less than or equal to 5 mm.
One can grind black, white and green pepper as well as red peppercorns if they amount to a maximum of 15% of the mix with one of the 3 other pepper types.
For optimal use of the Peugeot salt mill, you should use the following type of salt:
grains of salt with a diameter of 4 mm:
coarse dry salt: dry sea salt or rock salt.
Do not use a Peugeot salt mill for grinding pepper or other herbs and spices.
Moist sea salt, also called grey salt (from Guérande, Ile de Ré...); the moisture content of this salt is too high and damages the mill.
For this type of salt, you should use a Peugeot grinder specifically designed for moist sea salt, whose shape and materials are corrosion-resistant.
How to grind wet sea salt?
To grind wet sea salt, which is also called grey salt or fleur de sel\ (from Guérande, Ile de Ré, etc.), you must use the specific Peugeot grinding gear for wet sea salt, whose shape and materials are corrosion resistant.
Note: again, to grind it properly, wet sea salt must not be soggy. If it is, let the salt air dry for 24 or 48 hours before filling the grinder.
